About us

ABA Sheffield

Our story so far...

ABA Sheffield started in 2021 when founder Jubran Khokhar (BCBA) moved from London to Sheffield. The company was started to address the growing demand for high quality ABA therapies in South Yorkshire. As the number of school's in South Yorkshire that offer ABA as part of their Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision are few, many parents are limited to home-based ABA programmes that they often fund themselves. ABA Sheffield aims to provide a high quality service ensuring that the programme, training and supervision are comparable to what your child would receive in a specialist setting.

Your children deserve the best!

At ABA Sheffield we believe that every child should have access to the best education regardless of their level of need. That's why we provide every student with a bespoke education and behaviour plan addressing their specific goals. We work with parents and schools to design programmes that work around your school or home setting and deliver training on those programmes as well as the general principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis.

About the founder

Jubran Khokhar (BCBA) has worked in the field since 2014. He worked for the specialist ABA/VB provision BeyondAutism in South London where he received his practical training. While working at BeyondAutism, Jubran began his MSc in Applied Behaviour Analysis at Queen's University Belfast from which he graduated with an MSc in Applied Behaviour Analysis. Later he went to work with Lesley Love (BCBA) of Love ABA Ltd under the supervision of Amy Lewis (BCBA). Jubran has a wealth of knowledge and experience in working with children and adults with a diagnosis of autism. Jubran is passionate about teaching children and adults functional skills and behaviour management that can be maintained over the course of the person's life. He has successfully applied these methods across school, home and community settings.

What is Applied Behaviour Analysis?

Not JUST a therapy for Autism

Contrary to popular belief, Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is not just a treatment for children with autism. ABA has been used in a vast number of areas including sports, business, healthcare, social media and education. While it is a particularly useful approach for understanding and supporting children and adults with additional needs and/or communication difficulties, this doesn't cover the extent of its application.

Origins

ABA is the applied science of human behaviour. It is grounded in the work of B.F. Skinner who researched and developed the experimental analysis of behaviour.  While the principles were developed through the experimentation and observation of animal behaviour, through the work of researchers during the 1950's and 1960's many of the principles were shown to apply to people as well.

Change the environment, change the behaviour

ABA therapy is based on the idea that behaviour can largely be understood by the relationship between a person and their environment. By observing a person’s interactions with their environment and recording what happens immediately before and after different behaviours, a behaviour analyst can determine patterns and the functions of those behaviours. This is true for the child that has a diagnosis of autism as well as the office worker who is struggling with punctuality.

The behaviour analyst can then work with individuals, parents, managers or schools to address any of the observed behaviours in ways that would make a meaningful difference in the lives of the person/group being observed. Using the conclusions drawn by the analysis, the behaviour analyst can make slight changes in the environment to either increase or decrease these behaviours.

How do we work?

Observe

Our Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) will visit your school or home setting to observe the student in their normal environment.

Collect Data

The BCBA will collect data on the student's behaviour's of interest as well as any environmental stimuli before or after the behaviour.

Analyse

The data will be analysed and visually represented in order to show any patterns which may explain the functions of the behaviours under observation.

Design Intervention

The BCBA will design interventions specific to your environment, resources and needs to try and produce the desired outcome.

Training

The BCBA will provide training to your team on how to implement the interventions effectively.

Track Progress

The BCBA will continue to monitor the effectiveness of the interventions put in place and make any changes if necessary.
